Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Depeur UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Drögenbosteler Str. 5, 27374 Visselhövede, Germany (“we”, “us”) governing your use of the Jiyimobile app and website (the “Service”). By downloading or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority, you may use it only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

Your account

Some features require an account created with Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in secure. You may delete your account at any time in the app.

Licence to use the app

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own language learning, subject to these Terms and the rules of the App Store or Google Play through which you obtained the app.

Your content & public lists

You keep ownership of the vocabulary lists and other content you create (“Your Content”). You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display Your Content as needed to operate the Service.

If you choose to publisha list, you additionally grant us and other users a licence to view, import and copy that list within the Service. Published lists are public. You are responsible for Your Content and confirm that you have the rights to share it and that it does not infringe anyone’s rights or break the law. We may remove content that violates these Terms.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service unlawfully or to upload illegal, infringing, hateful or harmful content;
  • harass other users or publish another person’s private information;
  • attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse engineer or circumvent the Service or its limits;
  • scrape or bulk-extract content, or resell or redistribute the Service;
  • misuse the AI features to generate prohibited or abusive content.

AI features

The Service uses AI to generate vocabulary, explanations, stories and pronunciation/grading feedback from your input. This content is produced automatically, may be inaccurate or incomplete, and is provided for learning only — it is not professional, educational or other advice. Please review and verify important information yourself.

Subscriptions & purchases

Jiyi is free to use with an optional paid plan (Jiyi Pro) that unlocks additional features. Subscriptions are sold and billed by the Apple App Store or Google Play under their terms:

  • Payment is charged to your store account at confirmation of purchase.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; manage or cancel them in your store account settings.
  • Refunds are handled by the respective store according to its policies.
  • We may change features or pricing; changes do not affect a period you have already paid for.

Intellectual property

The Service, including the Jiyi name and logo, the app, and our curated lessons and content, is owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual-property laws. Dictionary data is provided under the CC-CEDICT project and is used under its Creative Commons licence. Other names and marks are the property of their respective owners.

Third-party services

The Service relies on third parties (for example Apple, Google, Convex, Cloudflare, Microsoft Azure, AI model providers and RevenueCat). Your use of features that depend on them may also be subject to their terms, and we are not responsible for third-party services.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will result in any particular learning outcome.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data or profits, arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for intent or gross negligence).

Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or to protect the Service or other users.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, announced in the app. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts competent for the seat of Depeur UG (haftungsbeschränkt) in Visselhövede, Germany have jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence provides otherwise.
